Context of Practice: Studio Task 1

Graphic Design I Love & Hate

Alvin Diec - posters

Alvin Diec is an American graphic designer who designs beautiful posters, a lot of them for gigs. They have varied styles and some are more modern than this but I just love this because of the simple colours, layout, use of type and image in an effectively minimal design which is somehow very traditional and vintage whilst looking bold.

Cannibal Corpse - Eaten Back To Life

Cannibal Corpse are an American death metal band whose debut album Eaten Back To Life was released in 1990. The album was banned in Germany and other countries because of the explicit nature of the songs and the cover. I think that all their albums should be banned because of their absolutely terrible graphic design. A lot of death metal covers completely sin against typography, layout & image. For example on this one not only is the type barely legible and looks like it has been painted on by a child, but the use of the same colour as the image means you can't even properly see the album title. The actual image composition is just a bit juvenile and the colours are awful, it hurts my eyes to look at it for too long.
